Koi Oh Ombre – Koi Scrubs 2013

large_koilogoKoi Scrubs 2013

Ace Uniforms has been a proud supplier of Women’s and Men’s Koi scrubs for many years. We are always excited to what Koi will bring us next!

What is ombre? What does this have to do with Koi scrubs?

You may be thinking, as I initially did, that someone forgot the H for hombre, Spanish for “man”. We also see this word in English, used as slang to represent either affinity for or hostility towards a male acquaintance. Living close to the border, I learned this word early in life and have used it often.

For you card players out there, you easily identified this as the card game to be playing in Europe in the later parts of the 17th century. Originating in Spain in the 16th century, this game eventually evolved into other trick-taking card games like Whist and Euchre.

Unfortunately, I never made the connection between these meanings and Koi scrubs (Spoiler alert: It doesn’t exist). Fortunately though, we always have the French, and more appropriately – French fashion.

Ombre (French), via “umbra” from Latin, is literally a shade, shadow, or ghost, but in fashion terms we are really talking about graduation – the gradual changing from one color to another. I listened to this pronunciation 20 times and still didn’t get it, oh well. Here’s a simple example:

Ombre Fashion

Simple example of ombre – graduation of color

If you follow fashion you have no doubt seen this trend in clothing,

Ombre in a stylish dress.

Ombre – stylish dress.

Ombre on some jeggings.

And on a button down shirt.

And on a button down shirt.

as well as hairstyles,

and now scrubs!

Pictured above are recent fashion-forward designs that Koi continues to release. By applying contemporary fashion trends to her scrub lines, Kathy Peterson, founder of Koi scrubs, has become a trend setter in the space of fashion line scrubs.

For more information you can google search terms like: ombre fashion, ombre fashion history, ombre hair, and ombre diy.

Thanks for stopping by the Ace Uniforms Blog, be sure to come back often for more helpful professional apparel information. Have a great day!

California Highway Patrol Uniform Products

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) have some of the most well-known iconic uniforms in the industry. But one aspect of the uniforms that often get overlooked are the different types of gear accessories that help CHP employees in their daily endeavors. These items come in a variety of shapes and sizes, all serving different purposes. This article features a few of the many products that are used by the CHP on a daily basis.

Not only do members of the California Highway Patrol have to be prepared for anything, but they also need to be able to react to a situation at a moments notice. If a predicament arises and escalates quickly, the gear they carry must be reliable. When it comes to firearms protection, the Pro Stealth Holster is as good as it gets. The N87 (pictured below) is made of a premium padded ballistic nylon with a powder coated black spring clip that keeps it securely anchored to the belt. A spare magazine pouch is standard for the auto loader models, which are ambidextrous (the clip can be removed and inserted on the opposite side for left hand carry).

The most effective item for CHP members to have is often the taster. Like firearms, this is another product that needs to be contained effectively, making it paramount to have a reliable holster. The Taster X-26 SERPA Duty Holster is one of the most versatile products in its class. The belt loop design allows CHP officers to exchange tasers without removing other gear. It automatically engages the safety when re-holstering, and is designed to retain probes if activated while still in the holster. The X-26 fits all SERPA platforms: duty belt loops, MOLLE and Tactical High Platforms.

Another product that is imperative in the CHP environment is handcuffs. Considering the wide range of situations in which arrests are made, this is debateably the single most important item in maintaining officer safety. And while there are lots of different types of handcuffs to choose from, there’s no substitute for the best. The Smith and Wesson Model 100 Handcuff is the most popular police handcuff product available. Made of heat treated carbon steel, it consists of a satin nickel or blue finish. Two standard handcuff keys are provided.

Clearly, when working for the California Highway Patrol, one must be prepared for anything. Part of that preparation requires having reliable gear that can be counted on in any situation. To view and purchase these items, as well as the entire CHP product line, please visit the Ace Uniforms website (http://www.aceuniforms.com).

This week’s Ace Uniforms featured special is Lab Coats. For doctors, nurses and other medical practitioners everywhere, this item is extremely important in assisting with the everyday endeavours of their profession. The lab coats come in as many styles and variations as there are doctor/medical pop culture references, so for the sake of this article, we’ll focus on a few specific products.

One lab coat that immediately stands out amongst the rest is the Consultation Coat. CDCR Duty Gear

Ace Uniforms offers a full range of uniforms and accessories for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), including jumpsuits, badge cases, hats, belts, and everything else employees need to do their job. This article focuses on an area of CDCR uniforms that might not get as much attention, but is just as important: Duty Gear.

While certain parts of CDCR uniforms are fairly consistent (shirts, pants, etc.) there are many different types of Duty Gear, and many variations of items. This makes it necessary for workers to have gear that is flexible and can be used with multiple products. One such item is the Single Magazine Carrier, which is designed to be a complement to pepper sprays and other smaller pieces. This product fits single column 9MM/45s, as well as the Glock 36, Sig 22, Sig P-245 and All Gov’t 1911. Styles and clones include Ruger P-45, P-90 and P-345.

Another popular Duty Gear product that is built for use with a number of items is the Personal Alarm Case.  Crafted in the US, the case is made with high quality leather designed to withstand even the roughest environments, all while protecting your alarm (or whatever else the case is holding). The size and shape provide for a range of carrying options, whether with one item or multiple, ensuring that the contents remain safe and secure at all times.

Communication is a key element in any profession, but this is especially true within the CDCR. Often times, it’s necessary to reach an individual or multiple people in an instant. This requires multiple forms of technology, as well as gear that is able to protect a constantly rotating group of products, Ace Uniforms realizes this and has workers prepared with their Radio Holder, which is specifically designed to easily adjust to different radio systems. Built like the Personal Alarm Case, the Radio Holder is made from a sturdy leather that is designed for protection and ease of use. No matter what the situation, your radio will always be close by.

These and other Duty Gear items are all available on the Ace Uniforms website. If you need something and don’t see it on the site, please call 619-233-0227.

Uniform Profile: California State Parks

This week’s uniform profile focuses on the California State Parks and the attire provided to them by Ace Uniforms. The State Parks system aims to provide for the health, inspiration and education of the people of California by helping to preserve the state’s extraordinary biological diversity, protecting its most valued natural and cultural resources, and creating opportunities for high-quality outdoor recreation. Ace offers uniform items for two groups of individuals whose tireless efforts help maintain the California State Parks system: Guides and Public Safety workers.

There are a multitude of items offered for both male and female guides. One common piece of the uniform unique to parks employees is the shorts. While this might appear to be a simple item, it’s often a complicated piece due to the ever-changing nature in which guides preside. The shorts need to be versatile, but also able to withstand altering conditions.

The Men’s Flat Front Short features a longer length 10″ inseam, two front pockets, two set-in back pockets, and a button closure with a brass zipper.

Its counterpart, the Women’s Utility Pleated Front Short is a classic cut with the waistband sitting just below the natural waistline. Similar to the men’s short with the same pockets and button closure, It contains an 8″ inseam, a stain release finish, and it’s machine washable and laundry friendly.

Within the Public Safety sector of the California State Parks system, there are two main areas in which Ace provides uniform materials: Pants and Shirts. Much like with the Guide uniforms, this section is separated by items for men and women. A popular pant, the PDU Class A Twill Pant has similar male and female versions. Both are priced identically and include features that are very conducive to the state parks environment.

The shirts come in a number of styles and sizes, with similar features for both men and women. My favorite item, the Performance Polo Short Sleeve has almost an identical look for male and female staff members. Both are the same price, with an option to add an embroidered name and embroidered badge for an additional fee.

To learn about these and other California State Parks uniform items, please visit the Ace Uniforms website (http://www.aceuniforms.com).

Ace Uniforms Profile: CAL FIRE Uniforms

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) serves and safeguards the people and protects the property and resources of California. Each year, CAL FIRE answers the call to over 300,000 emergency incidents. In a state where the weather can change in the blink of an eye, and treacherous conditions are in abundance, we rarely stop to think about the uniforms and equipment that these individuals rely on in order to do their jobs. In this article, we profile some of the different uniform items that we provide to the brave men and women of CAL FIRE.

One of the most important clothing elements for forestry and fire protection individuals is footwear. This is especially true in California, where the surroundings can change drastically on a daily basis. In an environment where every second counts, it’s imperative to have boots that can handle all of the elements. My favorite footwear item looks like something you’d see Arnold Schwarzenegger wearing in one of the Terminator movies. With a name like Smoke Jumper (left), it’s no wonder that this boot gets so much attention. With this product, there’s no way to slow CAL FIRE workers down.

Another key element in the forestry and fire protection service industry is the ever-changing climates and temperatures. When working under pressure in hazardous conditions is often a daily task, it’s paramount to have clothing that keeps you cool and absorbs the surrounding elements, even when that might seem impossible. The variety of Class B items provided by Ace Uniforms allows CAL FIRE members to stay cool and calm under pressure. The new Elbeco DutyMax CAL FIRE Short Sleeve (right) is one of the many items that I’d recommend to any forestry or fire protection service practitioner.

While off the job, or when waiting for the call to duty, comfort is just as key. Being a big fan of branded items myself, I’d highly recommend any of the CAL FIRE station wear items. The workshirt, for one (left) simply looks like something that could be worn for days at a time, which is key for workers whose shifts often last 24 straight hours or longer. And especially when considering the type of work done on duty, it even magnifies the importance of comfort when off the job.

These items, and many others, typically go unnoticed to those observing forestry and fire protection workers, but yet those who use these items rely on them immensely throughout their daily endeavors. Ace Uniforms is honored and privileged to be able to provide protection to those who protect us.
